In June, San Francisco voters passed a new Public Health Emergency Leave Ordinance. The ordinance requires private employers to provide Public Health Emergency Leave (PHEL) to eligible employees in public health emergencies.
Those eligible covered employers apply to private employers with more than 100 employees worldwide. Covered employees applies to all employees who perform work within the city and county of San Francisco for covered employers.
This ordinance, in addition to paid leave that is already provided by employers, goes into effect on October 1, 2022.

Illinois recently enacted amendments to the state’s Child Bereavement Leave Act, renaming it the Family Bereavement Leave Act (FBLA). Under the FBLA, employees can take 10 workdays of unpaid leave annually to grieve the death of any "covered family member."
The FBLA was revised to expand the inclusion of family members covered as well as include fertility-related losses.

Philadelphia employees who commute to work will soon receive benefits following the signing of the Employee Commuter Transit Benefit Ordinance. Signed by Mayor Jim Kenney on June 22, 2022, the ordinance requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide commuter transit benefits to qualifying employees.
In order to qualify, an employee must work at least 30 hours per week within Philadelphia for the same employer within the previous 12 months.
