How to Make New Employees Productive on Day 1

May 16, 2019 11:15:00 AM

If you've ever hired someone before you'll know that a new employee's "start day" doesn't typically mean it's their first day on the job. Many of your employees in Human Resources (HR) know that the typical early days on the job mostly consist of onboarding paperwork. The IRS will expect the following from every new hire:

  • W-4 form (or W-9 for contractors)
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form.
  • State Tax Withholding Form.
  • 1099-MISC for contract workers.

Additionally, many workplaces also take this time to register employees for direct deposit and E-Verify, and sign-off on any documents specific to the workplace like an employee handbook. It boils down to new employees spending their first day at your company, filling out paperwork instead of working.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way. What if you could get new employees “on the floor” and working on their first day?

Our onboarding system lets you do just that.

Once an applicant accepts a job offer from your company, their onboarding has started. You can send the IRS forms we mentioned and any other company-specific forms you'd like to your new employee electronically. If this employee doesn't start at your company for two weeks, they can make sure those onboarding forms are completed and sent back to your HR team days in advance.

The convenience doesn't end there. Our system also guides new employees through the I-9s, W-2s, WOTCs, direct deposits, 1099's, and other forms to answer any questions they may have along the way. It will also import new employee information directly from the applicant tracking system (ATS) and any other information submitted at that time to reduce redundancy and errors.

A few days might not seem like a lot of time to some, but for business owners like you, it can mean the difference between closing a sale or not.
